KFC has introduced a brand new burger for its festive menu.

The Gravy Burger box meal, as it is called, costs £6.99 and includes an original recipe fillet burger filled with cheese, slathered with KFC original creamy Gravynnaise and topped with a ‘cupped’ hash brown.

On the side there is a regular chips, regular drink, regular gravy pot and a small tub of Gravynnaise.

Festive Box: the new Gravy Burger box meal

Upon buying the new burger, the first part I had to try was, of course, the burger; however, its preparation is not complete in the kitchen. As I unboxed the burger, removing the top bun, I was encouraged by friends and KFC’s advertising, to pour the gravy onto the hash brown.

Obligingly, I took my first bite and was instantly surprised at how well the bun absorbed the gravy without becoming soggy. In fact, this actually enhanced how the bun tasted, as usually I find KFC buns rather dry.

The next aspect of the burger which caught my attention was how the hash brown complemented the burger, with the potato coming out creamy on the inside, blending nicely with the gravy. It created a beautiful thick texture — similar to dipping bread into hot cheese.

The initial taste was outstanding, I have to say — the gravy tasted rich and meaty, the chicken was perfectly spiced and the bread moist and flavourful on the inside whilst fresh and sweet on the outside. All merged, they were dancing in perfect harmony on my taste buds.

In saying this, the burger sounds too good to be true. Unfortunately, one minor ingredient did disappoint me, that being the Gravynnaise.

The new (limited time) sauce attempted to put a classic KFC spin on what’s essentially a fillet tower burger.

For me it didn’t work. Admittedly I’m not a mayonnaise person; however, this wasn’t my issue, rather it was that having already added gravy to the burger it wasn’t needed, only offering a rather sickly aftertaste — which I could only get rid of by drenching my burger in more gravy.

Overall, I think the burger is a tasty addition to the menu that delivers the vintage taste of KFC with a clever twist at a fair price.

One part of this meal still eludes me, however… what the cluck does it have to do with Christmas?
